Cueva de la Pileta
The guided tour, by torchlight, into the dark belly of the cave reveals Palaeolithic paintings of horses, goats and fish from 20,000 to 25,000 years ago. Beautiful stalactites and stalagmites add to the effect. The guided tours are given by members of the Bullón family, who discovered the paintings in 1905 and who speak some English.
Ronda’s most striking feature is the Puente Nuevo, which spans a gorge over 300 feet deep. It’s also known as the birthplace of modern bullfighting.
Gaucin is a spectacularly beautiful mountain village commanding sweeping views to Gibraltar and North Africa. The village is a gateway to the Serranía de Ronda where, depending on the time of year, you can enjoy an impressionist palette of colour: brilliant brush strokes of red poppies, yellow mimosa, purple wild orchids, tempered by the cool green of olive groves and occasional splash of pale pink almond blossom. Indeed, Gaucin is famous for its international artists’ community.
Jerez de la Frontera
The town, one of Andalusia’s most typical, boasts an endless list of tourist attractions, ranging from monuments such as the Moslem Fortress, Saint James” and Saint Michael’s churches, the Cathedral and the Carthusian Monastery, to singular institutions like the Royal School of Equestrian Art, where the marvellous Carthusian horses, a unique Spanish-Arabic breed, can be admired, or the cellars where the famous Jerez wines are produced.
